You know, I'm glad someone else put it to words because I felt the same way you do (and still do mostly) about it. Coming from my 2+2, I could do anything with that car...I could throw it at a turn with careless disregard and it was fine. Power through it, power out of it and I didn't have to worry about it at all. Those days are gone. While I would never go back, I do miss that simplicity. With my TT, even a year later and with some suspension upgrades, I still take much more care on turns and such. Obviously, this is a much safer way to go about things, but I do miss the "get in and go" feel that my NA had. With the TT, however, everytime I get into it I feel like I'm strapping myself into the cockput of a jet. I start by checking the oil/tires/etc, run an instrument check, let everything warm up properly and THEN I'm ready to drive. In a way, that has it's own charm to it. This is no ordinary car...it IS a rocketship to me. "This is Foxtrot 300 ready for takeoff" -click- "Roger that Foxtrot 300, you are a go for takeoff" -click- It's a labor of love though. I also think I take it easier on the twisties because there's that small part in the back of my brain that knows I could wrap it around a pole and lose it. Sure, it's just a car...but when you've put so much into it, you cherish it. I'm back to being torn again...I want to roadrace, but I do love the straightline speed I finally have...and now with SoCal buzzing with draggers, I can't make up my mind. I think if I can make it to 2005 with this job, I'm building a dedicated track car so I can have the best of both worlds. I wanted to get a G35 for a daily, but I'd rather settle for a track car and an old beater. I just have to drive fast, on all tracks damnit. ;)
